Assessment

Assignment 1 Evaluation/Assessment

1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this) 2

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert) 3.5

3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree) 4

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
For me, I thought the subjectiveness of the assignment helped and hurt in a way. It helped in that, having virtually no prior knowledge on the topic, I had to completely start from scratch and if I didn't know what something like post-process kinematics was, I had to learn about it on my own; it forced me to dig deeper. The subjectiveness of the assignment also hurt in the sense that I caught myself stressing out on details that didn't necessarily apply to the assignment's objective, thus resulting in a disorganized mass of information. I also feel as though I could use some in-class review and discussion from a group perspective on findings of my peers. Our cumulative knowledge on the topic could really help me to engrain what I learned into long-term memory. So maybe having a little more guidance in the assignment and post-assignment review/discussion would make the activity better in my opinion.

Assignment 2 Evaluation/ Assessment

1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this) 3

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert) 4

3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree) 4

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
I have worked with DSMs, DEMs, and orthomosaics before, however never have I went through the process of actually creating them from imagery. I felt as though the introduction questions and actually producing the maps helped me to dig a little deeper into learning about the differences between the three. Maybe incorporating a tutorial on how to use ArcScene specifically would make the activity better?

Assignment 3 Evaluation/ Assessment

1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this) 1

I thought the assignment was structured well and I learned a lot, no real critiques here.

Assignment 4 Evaluation/ Assessment

1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this) 1

I thought the Esri Online course was really helpful in not only instructing me how to manipulate the imagery but learning about what each of the steps was doing. I wasn't too fond of the mapping software in ArcGISPro and would've rather done the cartography in ArcMap. It was good to figure out how to do cartography in Pro just for future reference, but again, the quality wasn't as good as it would've been if done in ArcMap.

Assignment 5 Evaluation/ Assessment

Looking at some my peer's blogs upon completion of my own, I found one who used a .gif to better show how the GCPs helped to tie down the imagery for the orthomosaic. I think this could be incorporated into the assignment to better compare the imagery that uses GCPs and the imagery that does not. https://abekroeninguaslabs.blogspot.com/

Assignment 6 Evaluation/ Assessment

1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this) 3

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert) 3

3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree) 3

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
I feel as though the imagery used in this assignment was not the best for showing the true capabilities of this software. I know a lot of classmates of mine felt the same way as their value added data and other imagery turned out somewhat poorly as did mine. Also, I thought the NDVI was an extremely useful image to show vegetation health and it was sort of skipped over in the assignment instructions.
